Writing to Publishing Program Blog

For me, writing has been a pivotal experience that has allowed me to expand my imagination to create stories from my inspirations. Through my experience writing and researching about how to write, I have noticed how many middle schoolers do not have the opportunity to write outside of school, either due to lack of interest or lack of opportunity given. As a result, I felt that I could provide that opportunity. Although in middle school, I was not interested in writing and only saw it as a chore, I want to change that narrative for all kinds of students. I want to be able to help younger writers and readers learn the power of writing with an upcoming reading program I am creating.

The program is primed to be a free after school program for any students interested in writing and publishing online and through various middle schools around the DMV area. The main purpose of my writing to publishing program is to help aspiring writers learn more about the writing process of novels and short stories in a fun environment.

As I embarked on this journey, I had several goals in mind. Firstly, I hoped to foster a love for reading and writing among middle schoolers, encouraging them to explore different genres and styles. By introducing them to various writing techniques and storytelling methods, I aimed to inspire creativity and imagination in not just novels, but in other genres like short stories and flash fiction as well.

Furthermore, I wanted to provide a supportive community for young writers to share their work, receive constructive feedback, and learn from each other's experiences. Writing can often be an intimidating activity, but by connecting with peers who share similar interests and passions, I hope that more students can feel empowered and motivated to continue writing.

I want to encourage students to embrace challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth.

Ultimately, my long-term goal for this program is to compile a collection of short stories written by the participants and publish it on platforms like Amazon. By showcasing their work to a wider audience, students can gain confidence in their abilities and see the impact their words can have on others.

I believe that everyone can always learn more for writing, which is such an important skill in life, and a great skill just for a hobby or even a new way of expressing yourself. This program is dedicated to middle schoolers, but I also hope it will serve as a learning opportunity for me as well, as we embark on this creative journey together.
